Bay of Plenty Group Meeting 28 August 2011

A beautiful warm winter’s day saw 15 members attend a most enjoyable meeting at the home of Willy and Bill Dijk who live in rural Te Puna.  Once our Iris business had been attended to Roger Haworth gave an interesting talk on his ‘Adopt an Iris’ topic which was Iris MDBs AKA Million Dollar Babies!  General discussion led to most members agreeing that these little Irises seem to do better with some dappled shade to protect them from NZ’s hot afternoon sun. Our shared lunch was as ‘calorific’ as ever so it was off for a walk around Bill and Willy’s nursery known to their many customers as Daffodil Acre.  Bill surprised us with some lovely Juno Irises in flower, so many rare and interesting bulbs to ooh and aah over with the little Narcissus being the stars of the day.  Our ‘Blooms on Display’ stars were a White Pacific Coast Iris seedling grown by Robyn Powell and a Moraea elegans grown by Bill Dijk.
